Use & Setup
How to set up and use your Hofeu bioethanol fireplace.
Does the fireplace require any special installation?
No — the fireplace is ready to use right out of the box. No flue, gas line, or electrical connection is needed. Simply place it on a stable surface, fill the burner with bioethanol, and light it.
Where can I place the fireplace?
In any well-ventilated room: living room, dining room, bedroom, or covered terrace. Keep at least 1 m of clearance from any flammable materials.
How long does a full tank last?
Approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on the flame size and room ventilation.
How do I light and extinguish the fireplace?
Use a long lighter to ignite the burner. To extinguish, slide the snuffer tool included in the box over the burner opening. Never use water to put out the flame.
Can it be used outdoors?
The fireplace is primarily designed for indoor use. Outdoors, wind can disrupt the flame. Only use it on a covered terrace sheltered from the wind.
Safety
Questions about safe use of your fireplace.
Is the fireplace safe?
Yes — it is built to European safety standards using quality materials and a secured burner. Always follow the instructions and use only bioethanol fuel approved for fireplaces.
Can it be used around children or pets?
As with any open-flame appliance, never leave the fireplace unattended around young children or pets. Keep it out of reach and place it on a stable surface.
Does the fireplace produce smoke or odours?
No — bioethanol combustion produces no smoke, no soot, and no noticeable odour. Normal room ventilation is sufficient.
Fuel
Everything you need to know about bioethanol and how to use it.
What bioethanol should I use?
Use only bioethanol fuel approved for fireplaces, minimum 96%. Never use regular alcohol, petrol, or gel. We recommend products certified to EN 16800.
Where can I buy bioethanol?
At DIY stores (B&Q, Wickes, Leroy Merlin), on Amazon, or at home décor retailers. Always choose a product certified to EN 16800 for optimal and safe combustion.
How much fuel does it consume per hour?
Approximately 0.3 to 0.6 L per hour depending on flame size. At full flame, expect 2.5 to 3 hours of burn time; at a lower flame, up to 5 hours.
Heat & Performance
The heating capabilities of your bioethanol fireplace.
Does the fireplace actually heat the room?
Yes — it produces real heat, enough to warm a room of up to 30 m². It is designed as a supplemental heat source and a visual centrepiece, not a primary heating system.
Can it replace my main heating system?
No — a bioethanol fireplace is an ideal supplemental heat source for evenings and the shoulder seasons. It works perfectly alongside central heating or electric radiators.
Maintenance
How to care for your fireplace and keep it looking its best.
How do I clean the fireplace?
Allow it to cool completely before any cleaning. Wipe the metal frame with a slightly damp cloth. The glass cylinder can be cleaned with a standard glass cleaner. Never submerge the burner in water.
Does the fireplace need regular servicing?
No professional servicing is required. Periodically check the burner visually and replace it if any signs of corrosion appear.
